The electric car share program is expected to launch next month. Asbury Park is the first in Monmouth County to have this program. There will be charging stations and car locations in a few places throughout the city.
The first 3 locations will be, on the waterfront near Convention Hall and The Asbury Hotel, in the downtown on Mattison Avenue, and on Springwood Avenue, near Springwood park.
There will be two vehicles at those locations. The rates are expected to be between $10 and $15 per hour.
I went to the promotional event back in October and took a test drive. There were a few different makes and models
The cars run quiet and smooth. It was a fun ride. You just have to be careful about the brake handle on the steering wheel, it’s not connected to the brake lights, so if there’s someone behind you, you must remember to use the floor brake.
There’s also a New Paid Parking System that will become effective in February as well. This new system will be based on license-plate recognition and eliminate the need to enter parking space numbers. It will also allow consumers to move their cars
Alphanumeric keypads were installed on all pay stations back in December. Pay stations, the mobile parking app, and signage will be updated as the rollout of the new system progresses. Consumers can download the mobile app at asburyparkapp.com or use the myparkingreceipts.com for use at the pay stations.

New Development Projects – There are two new proposed development projects coming up for approval in 2019. One of them is by developer Trip Brooks, who has a 24 unit residential project planned at 215 First Avenue in the waterfront redevelopment zone, as a result of Lot by Lot development approval. The glass and wood structure is quite appealing. To see photos and elevation drawings check out the article by Michele Gladden in The Asbury Park Sun.
The second project is by Sackman Enterprises. The proposed development encompasses a commercial and residential multi-building project which includes a hotel in the Kinmouth Building on Mattison Avenue, with plans to restore the old Savoy Theater. Also proposed was a second structure on Mattison and Bangs Avenues, currently a parking lot, consisting of a 17 story building; 11 floors of residential condominiums, a 6-story parking deck, and a sub-level grocery store. The planning board will make their recommendations and decision on February 11th.

I personally was not a big fan of the series, but definitely a fan of James Gandolfini. I enjoyed watching him in films like, “Enough Said” with Julia-Louis Dreyfus and “The Mexican” with Brad Pitt and Julia Roberts. His role in that movie and relationship with Julia Roberts was one of my all-time favorites of Gandolfini.
What did you like best about the Sopranos…The actors, the storyline, the gangster lifestyle, the food, or the weekly watch parties? Or maybe something else. If you’re a Gandolfini fan like me, what are your favorite movies? Share your thoughts below.
